Late last year we had the pleasure of partnering with Trulia for a couple of posts all about Houston, and what makes the city so great. If you’re a loyal reader of Rediscovering Houston, you’ve probably already found Trulia’s guest post on our blog, Houston Neighborhoods That Should Be on Your Radar, but you may not have discovered their post, Local Love: Houston Edition, which we’re proud to say quotes famously zealous Houstonian (and avid cyclist) Bill Baldwin as a local who is totally in love with Houston—and willing to gush about it!
People don’t normally think of Houston as a tourism destination, but with huge events frequently making their way to the city, from major sporting events (2016 Final Four, next week’s Super Bowl) to huge conferences and conventions (like OTC, the largest event in the world for the oil and gas industry), Houston seems to be constantly entertaining out-of-town guests.
Trulia’s Local Love: Houston Edition touches on many of the reasons why we love calling Houston home, including topics like best barbecue restaurants and favorite weekend activities, which can be especially useful to those just stopping in for a few days.
With the Super Bowl a little more than a week away, we figured now would be as good a time as any to rediscover some of Houston’s best offerings for tourists.
Here’s a little taste of some of what you’ll find in Local Love: Houston Edition, with Bill’s answer to where you can find the best barbecue in Houston:
“I will get myself into trouble with this question if I answer the wrong way! There are simply too many places to name and they all have their own allegiances. It’s not uncommon to find one-hour-plus long lines at newer places like Killen’s BBQ in Pearland, Jackson Street BBQ in Downtown, and Gatlin’s BBQ in Oak Forest. Then there are Houston institutions that we all know as go-tos for a solid plate of barbecue at the grill-savvy iterations of beloved local chains like Goode Company and Pappas BBQ. Sorry if I sound diplomatic, this is just the reality of barbecue in a city like Houston!”
