Leslie Sjurseth is a residential realtor with Bouevard Realty. Though she’s made five international moves and traveled all over the world as a professional relocator, at the end of the day it’s Cypress that she’s proud to call home. Cypress is a booming cluster of northwest Houston renowned for its trees, its namesake creek that offers a host of opportunities for outdoor recreation, and its schools. Leslie knows the ins and outs of this slice of Greater Houston and wants you to rediscover it with her.
Through my extensive international travels I’ve had the pleasure of trying a variety of cuisines from all over the world, but I still seem to find that some of my favorite meals come when I’m at home in Houston, or to be more specific, Cypress. I could compile quite a long list of Cypress area restaurants I love, but I’m going to try to limit it to the cream of the crop. So without further ado, here are my top 4 Cypress restaurants to check out right now.
If there’s one thing better than enjoying a delicious pizza, it’s knowing that by doing so, you’re contributing to a good cause. It may sound strange, but that’s actually the case at 5 Loaves Pizza. Part of the net sales from this family-friendly restaurant go to support Ezekiel 37 Ministry, a group working to build a school to educate children in Karamoja, Uganda. With that in mind, when you’re eating at 5 Loaves Pizza, you really feel that their motto, “pizza for your soul,” rings true. This concept of food-with-a-side-of-philanthropy is not so foreign to me, since near my Heights office you’ll find two coffee shops, A 2nd Cup and El Gato Coffeehouse, whose mission revolves around social justice.
This good old fashion seafood joint prides itself on using fresh, quality food. In addition, it’s important to the owners, Sam and Linda Sok, to have something on the menu to please each and every customer, from the most popular dishes like fried shrimp or Filet Mignon to maybe less common orders like burgers or fried rice. With quality steaks starting at $16.99, and a BYOB policy, you don’t have to break the bank for a wonderful night out here.
The Backyard Grill offers a fun-filled bar and grill atmosphere that’s a great place to dine out with the family. Their wide-ranging menu includes burgers, sandwiches, salads, ribs, fajitas and a whole lot more. If you go there though, you have to try the Redneck Fries (french fries covered with pulled pork, melted cheese, jalapenos, pico de gallo, sour cream & BBQ sauce). These fries may sound like a lot, but trust me, they are absolutely delectable!
The Shack may have just opened its third Cypress location, but for me, the original location on Cypress Rosehill Rd. is still the best. With an abundance of outdoor seating and a laid back vibe, the Shack is a hard to beat lunch spot on a beautiful day, especially if you’re craving a burger. Their burgers are so good that they helped land the Shack on Allison Cook’s Top 100 Restaurants list for the Houston Chronicle. This entry was posted in Rediscover, Resources, Revisit
